History of the Beasts
Chapter I. Those thrown away
Not many in present day know where the Caedis Tribe first originated. A few may recall the stories passed down from their ancestors, but not many. The Tribe did not call 'Ground Zero' their home for many generations. It was founded countless miles away in the mountains. Life for the Caedis started simple. When the Pandemonium Plague first began to infect wildlife, the packs and clans within the area were frightened. After realizing how potent the Plague was, they banished and threw out any who had it. It was these rejects, tossed from their homes and damned to decay, who formed the Caedis Tribe. They came together for survival and the need for companionship during such a terrifying time of their lives. Many of the traditions today were carried over from those ancient packs and clans.
As their original clans began to die off, so too did the first generations of the Caedis Tribe. They had done something to ensure the Tribe's survival, though it was never the intention. Despite dying from the virus that plagued them, love was still possible. Though their life-span was shortened due to the virus, they would create families. Their offspring would be the first instances of Plague-born children whose bodies adapted and seemed to strengthen with the virus. It was this that gave them their advantages.
With their adaptions to the virus and an insatiable hunger, it didn't take long for the Tribe to run out of food. They would move, traveling across the lands but never staying in one spot for long. The Caedis Tribe lived a nomadic life for many years. They had grown wiser, never staying long enough to deplete a region's supply of food. That changed, however, when they stumbled upon the lands of Ground Zero.

Chapter II. Staking their claim
When the Caedis Tribe came upon Ground Zero, they were intrigued. It was fascinating for them to explore and see where the Pandemonium Plague had been created. What was even more intriguing was learning of another group of infected. The Letalis had laid claim to this land, and after the two tribes crossed paths, they tried to chase the Caedis out of their territory. This would become a fatal mistake. The Letalis were not born from the Plague and were at a disadvantage.
Led by their Dame, Icora, they wasted no time proving their strength. They tore into any Letalis who were foolish enough to try to rise against them. It was a massacre that led to destruction of the Letalis Tribe. The few who survived would flee or be taken into the Caedis Tribe as Prisoners or Grunts. The Caedis Tribe were victorious and laid claim to Ground Zero. They settled in the very charred chasm the Letalis had once occupied and brought a new age of terror onto the Plague Lands. |
Dame Icora would not survive long after her Tribe's conquest. She was ambushed, challenged and slain by one of their own. It was Nyoka, a Warden who would kill the polar bear and take the title of Dame. Nyoka would lead the tribe ruthlessly with her Duke, Erebus, who would later become her mate. Their days of power are ones many in the Tribe still recall. The reign of Dame Nyoka lasted many years and during that time countless plans were put into effect to bring discourse to the neighboring FIdelis Tribe. No one could argue that Nyoka was quite the expert at scheming.
During the prime of her rule she would become pregnant with Erebus' pups. The pregnancy was strenuous and only two pups would survive. After the difficult labor she went to rest in the Plague Lands. It was here she was attacked and killed by her brother, Discord, who took advantage of her weakened state. Erebus would become the new Sire, forced to raise his pups by himself.

Chapter III. Nothing stays the same
After his mate's murder, Erebus was never truly the same, though the downtrodden Sire led the tribe well. During his time, he started the tradition of having Prisoners fight each other for amusement. He was much calmer than the former matriarch, and the year of his rule was one of relative reprieve for the Tribe. It's this very fact that led to his downfall.
When a newcomer, Bec, came to the lands of Ground Zero, he began to claim portions of territory for himself and his companion, Morgana. The Caedis Tribe would not stand for anyone encroaching on their home. They went to deal with this threat, led by Sire Erebus himself. The newcomers refused to leave and Bec rose up to challenge Erebus for his leadership. The Caedis Sire put up a good fight, but in the end was bested by Bec; Erebus was decapitated and killed where he stood.

This put his young sons at severe risk. Luckily Bec seemed indifferent or unaware of them during his rule. One son would run off on his own and the other, Vantus, would stay. For whatever reason Duchess Morgana was drawn to the adolescent and partially aided in his rearing.
Sire Bec was a cold leader. Though ruthless, he did little with the Caedis Tribe, leaving them to their own devices more often than not. With no solid ruling in place, the members did as they pleased. This time was one of chaos for the Tribe; there was no real order or authority. Violence and death ran rampant within the ranks in the absence of true leadership. Whether he grew bored or simply overwhelmed by the state of things, Bec would abandon it. He left without a word. There are rumors he ran off with a love interest or was even assassinated in secrecy. No one to this day is sure where he's gone. |
The lack of proper authority drove most in the Caedis Tribe mad. They grew power hungry, eager to rise as the new Sire and/or Dame. Bickering and full on fights were common. Many lost their lives. Things for the Tribe of beasts was looking grim.
Chapter IV. Reclaiming what was lost
Taking advantage of this lack of leadership, a female wolf rose to become the Dame. Her name was Paradox. She was capable, though could never get a firm gasp of authority over the chaotic beasts she tried to rule. Though she tried her best to quell the unrest of her subjects it did little good. Out of all leaders her time was the shortest. Not even a full month into her time as Dame did something happen.
There was one who had gone forgotten within the Tribe: Vantus, the son of Nyoka and Erebus. He had kept a low profile during Bec's reign, but the resentment within him only grew. The more angry he became over losing his rightful place by blood, the more determined he grew. Over the years he had learned much. Vantus was stronger than ever, and with Bec's existence faded into obscurity, he would strike with newfound prowess.
The battle was short. He dominated over Dame Paradox with ease. He wasted no time banishing and chasing her from the Tribe. A select few rose to challenge against his claim for leadership, but with adrenaline and rage flooding his veins, all met a quick death. Finally after years of obedience and silence he sat upon the throne his parents had once claimed. The rightful successor had taken his place and things changed for the Caedis Tribe. Things had finally begun to resemble a state of normalcy. |
In the beginning, Sire Vantus was more untamed, eager to throw around his power and control. This was especially obvious when it came to the Fidelis Tribe. They were bothered extensively until one day they simply broke apart. For some years the Caedis had sole rule over the Plague Lands. They grew in strength, power and numbers. The lapse in a proper 'rival' gave the Sire time to grow as a leader. His untamed bloodlust and chaotic energy quelled. He became calculating, strategic and now runs the Tribe with a delicate yet effective balance of order and chaos.
With the Fidelis Tribe returning, only time will tell how the story will continue for the Caedis Tribe.
